? Use of Blood testing for CRP ( C- Reactive Protein ) and other essential blood tests including cholesterol in King Edwards Medical Group? :

  • We are using innovative technology called 'Near point testing' - this allows GPs to request blood tests that will be given as instant results and so allow better care. These tests which are for GPs allow management of conditions such as infections to be validated. Please see the ?CRP? Pathway on how our clinicians would use such testing. CRP is a blood test that allows GPs to see if their is a risk of an infection that may require antibiotics. Usually this value should be below 20, but if a test shows a value >100 in the case of a chest infection we may commence antibiotics. We also provide similar testing for cholesterol as part of health checks done by our clinical team.
  • All of these tests are done by a small pin prick sample of blood taken which allows our machines to analyse from this tiny amount and provide results and can be done on any age group.
